Member of City Council; City of Santa Maria

William J. Wagener.

Born at the end of World War II 4th in a family of five. Graduated from University of Wisconsin,in 1969. Enlisted during the height of the Viet Nam War for Helicopter School, and volunteered for Viet Nam Duty. Served 360 days in Viet Nam, wounded, hospitalized in Qui Nhon, Viet Nam, Honorably discharged and decorated. Did volunteer teaching on days off in an orphange in Qui Nhon run by Catholic nuns.

Returned to Madison, Wisconsin to finish college degree, but graduated from U.W. Green Bay in Environmental Science, after witnessing the devastation of chemical warfare in Nam. Belonged to the Ironworkers & Boilermakers union 449 for two years and also the Longshoremans Union (Great Lakes).

Served at Asst. Scoutmaster in Nicholet Area Council in 1966-67 and 1970. Scoutmaster several times in Wisconsin and Los Angeles. Still believes in the Scout Oath, & Law, especially being "thrifty" with the public tax money.

Ran for State Senate in 1970 & 1974 in Wisconsin and State Assembly in 1972 and later in 1980 for Congress in Los Angeles County. Sold Real estate successfully in Los Angeles until move to Santa Maria in 1982, where also met with success in real estate. Also ran my own restaurant one year. Boy that is really taxing body and soul. Never again.

Have done substitute Teaching to help the teachers and public school districts since 1997, and still do part time.

Was an early member of the National Taxpayers Union.

Have had 3 daughters and 1 son in soccer in Santa Maria.

Very upset by the current City Council suggesting the 1000 plus kids in soccer should pay an extra fee, while the same Council is perfectly content to "loan guarantee" $100,000 plus to 1 man's private airline, who has only lived here a short time. Though I admire any capitalist who uses NON-government money, I can not condone or accept this illicit lending of TAX money for one new or old citizen, when it is taken by force from the voters and non-voting taxpayers.

I expect most of my real supporters, have not voted in a long time, if ever, because the did not see a point to it. Now they have a reason. I shall protect their money with my every vote on the council.

I shall need a overwhelming vote to convince the other 4 members that they need to stop wasting and lending YOUR money to every fly by night capitalist who asks for money. That is what banks are for. And I shall do everything I can to stop this on going FINANCIAL PORNOGRAPHY the City Council seems addicted to.

Furthermore, I suggest this was SUCH an IMPROPER LOAN guarantee, that the city council members who voted for it should take out a loan on their OWN homes and pay back the taxpayers.
