Political Philosophy for Bernadette Bott "Bernie" Marquez

I have been involved in the Santa Barbara non-profit community for years as well as my children's school. By running for the board I want to take that involvement a step further. I want to ensure that students at Montecito Union continue to receive the best education possible. Education reform is the "buzz word" these days. Evidence of this focus on education comes from both our presidential candidates as well as in the many articles written in our newspapers daily. The education of our children will be changing in the future and I want to ensure that the quality of education at Montecito Union School does not diminish but continues to excel. My responsibility as a board member and a parent will be as an advocate for the students, parents, and school in the district. Becoming a board member of the Montecito Union School District will enable me to be a positive force in the education of the students in this district. We must make sure our children are able to meet the unique challenges of this increasingly technological era so they can succeed at whatever profession they choose. I hope to do that if elected on Nov. 7, 2000. |
