Letter to my fellow Santa Marian Voters

On November 7, 2000, I will be on the ballot running for one of the two seats in the Santa Maria City Council. I am running on the premise that we need to put city government back in the hands of the people where it belongs. I want to restore people's faith in what local governmet was meant to be: letting the people decide what is best for them.

If you elect me on November 7th, I assure you that I will work for you and not for a chosen few. I believe that we can make a difference in our city's development. I will make myself available to listen to your concerns and work with you to find solutions. You will always be treated with respect and dignity whether on the street or in the Council.

The following are some concerns that I will work hard to solve when I am elected:

• Traffic Congestion: Let's reroute traffic from inner city strets, especially the large commercial semi-trailers that use Main Street(State Highway 166) to protect our children as they walk to and from school.

• Deterioration of our Downtown: Let's work toward the renovation of our downtown area in order to protect our small business and beautify Santa Maria.

• Build a Sports Arena: Many of you have expressed the desire to have a sports arena for our young and adult soccer players. The city would benefit by hosting tournaments and offer sportin events.

• Rent control for Seniors: Seniors with fixed incomes should be able to afford housing.

• Water: I will fight hard to lower your water bill and to keep utilities under control.
