It is my belief that in public education we must offer students the very best possible education NOW, so that students will be successful in a global economy later. We must focus on reading, writing, and computing at all grade levels in order for students to reach mastery of content standards. At the same time, we must provide opportunities for students to have a balanced curriculum that includes technolgy, the arts, physical fitness, and school-to-career exploration. It is never easy to meet the needs of nearly 50,000 students and the desires of their parents. However, through district content standards aligned with state content standards, quality teaching, effective and positive parent/teacher/student/communication, school site-based management, rich educational materials, a physically and emotionally safe school environment, and a commitment to educational excellence, we are continually improving the manner in which students are educated. As a parent of children who will continue to be in the school district for several years, I am passionate about the importance of successfully educating ALL children well. The children today will be adults when my children are adults. They will be the workers paying taxes as my generation retires. They will be the individuals making decisions about the world for future generations. I want today's children to be able to make intelligent, informed, responsible decisions as they mature. Society can afford nothing less. |
