Bill Farrell for City Council--Real Experience. Real Leadership. Real Results. An accomplished community leader, Bill now wants to serve as the second district's representative on the Sacramento City Council. "I believe that a person's track record of accomplishment tells you a lot about how that person will perform in a given job," Bill says. "If you really want to know what I will do, look at what I have done. That's the difference. "When I say I'll be an effective advocate for the second district, I hope you'll look at my track record of real leadership and real results," Bill says. "That's what the Sacramento Bee did when they endorsed my candidacy." A native of Sacramento, Bill Farrell, 45, learned his work ethic from his mother, Alice Farrell. Like his mom, Bill worked two and three jobs at a time, and paid his own way through Christian Brothers High School. Bill also attended community college for two years. A week after his 21st birthday, Bill took a job tending bar at Socal's Tavern on Folsom Blvd. Two years later he bought the business, which he owns and operates to this day. In 1986, with their first child on the way, Bill and K.D. Farrell bought a home in Woodlake. Bill quickly emerged as a community leader and a respected voice for the entire north side. In 1992, the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Authority hired Bill Farrell as Economic Revitalization Coordinator for the North Area. Over the next six years, Bill's steady, hands-on leadership helped spark a commercial and cultural renaissance on the Del Paso Strip. "While still grappling with a troubled past, a hopeful future is unfolding around Old North Sacramento," reported the Sacramento Bee. "A new hub of art and entertainment is being built right in the core of the community." Crime is down, business is up, and on the second Saturday of each month, the Phantom Galleries draw crowds of art lovers from all around the region, the Bee reported. ("Del Paso Boulevard rebuilds," by Nancy Weaver Teichert, published Nov. 22, 1998.) North Sac is coming back--due in no small part to Bill Farrell's leadership, his feel for the community, and his ability to bring diverse groups together to get real results. On the city council, Bill can do even more for better, safer neighborhoods in the north side, and in all of Sacramento. Other accomplishments: ·Woodlake Improvement Club president for three years ·Published the North Sacramento Journal, and co-founded the Congress of Neighborhoods, giving all 13 north-side neighborhoods a voice ·Played a critical role in turning the proposed Arden-Garden Connector and Cal Expo Extension into realities ·In 1999 co-founded the non-profit Uptown Community Development Corporation ·Developed an emergency-preparedness plan for the north side while serving as a trustee for the American River Flood Control District. ·Board Member, Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency ·Founding Member, Area Congress of Neighborhoods ·Chair, Del Paso Boulevard Cleanup ·Member, Arden Gardens Committee ·Organizer, Woodlake Community Garden ·Chair, Community Christmas Tree Lighting ·Board Member, North Sacramento Chamber of Commerce ·Member, North Sacramento Rotary ·Founder, 4th of July Children's Parade and Halloween Pumpkin Carving Day ·Volunteer for the Woodlake School Planting, and the Woodlake Light Rail Planting ·Member of the Police Memorial Design Committee ·Member of the North Sacramento Historical Society ·Tour Guide for the "Mayor's Bus Tour District 2" ·Installed the original banners on Del Paso Blvd.; participated tin the Graffiti Paint Out Day ·Volunteer for the Woodlake School Cub Scouts |
