Public land belongs to the people. Not the city.

By Norm Westwell

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Huntington Beach

Beach curfews should be repealed. We no longer have a crime problem. Now we have a denial of use problem. Public lands belong to the people. They must be restored to the people.
Public lands are owned by the people. Prohibiting the public from using our own land is direct assault on the freedom and liberty of the people.

There is no valid reason to prohibit the people from using the beach at night.

The city claims there were "undesirable elements" causing problems at the beach at night.

OK. That problem has obviously been solved by the outright prohibition of the public. It's now time to begin relaxing these curfews. When and if a problem arises in the future, we can address it. A balance of freedom and crime must be attained.

It is arrogant for the city to continue to prohibit the public from using its own land because of crime.

HUNTINGTON BEACH IS AMERICAS SAFEST CITY!!!

This is also Americas most paranoid city. I hope we have not attained our safest city status by prohibiting the people from coming here! That is not what freedom and liberty are all about.

  • Grunion hunting is a unique beach community activity which has been effectively banned by the city.

  • Night surfing is a unique HB activity effectively banned by the city.

  • Night fishing at the pier is a unique HB activity effectively banned by the city.

Freedom, Liberty, and the publics right to use public land is something Americans must guard to protect. Once it is gone (as it is now) it is nearly impossible to get back.

Norm Westwell is working to restore the peoples right to use public lands.
