A letter describing my reasons for running for office as well as a request for financial and volunteer support.Chris Thompson For Fullerton School Board Dear Friends, I am writing to you to announce my candidacy for the Fullerton School District Board of Education and I am asking for your support. I have been very involved with our District for the past several years: · Active for two years with Acacia Elementary School Site Council. · Appointed to the Technology Center Development Committee for Acacia School. · Founded the Maple Elementary School K-6 Committee ending busing for hundreds of children. · Appointed member of the Fullerton School District, Maple Expansion Committee. · Elected to Charter Council of the Beechwood Elementary School Site Council. · Elected President of the Beechwood Elementary School Site Council. Many parents have experienced the feeling of being ignored by our District Office. I am aware of several incidents of Parent phone calls going unreturned and District representatives being unwilling to attend meetings or discuss serious Parental concerns. Ensuring that parents have a voice in their children's education is my TOP Priority. While there are several sincere educators on our School Board, if I fail to win this election the board will be comprised of 5 members who are financially backed by the Teachers Union. That's 5 out of 5. Please be clear that I am not an opponent of the teachers of this district. It has been my experience that we have excellent teachers here in Fullerton. I am simply an involved parent that believes that the current and future School Boards of this city are far more beholding to a special interest group than they are to parents or to our children. The fact that our children get out of school EVERY WEDNESDAY at or around NOON is proof of this. Several teachers have told me that it is difficult to get a lot of teaching done on Wednesdays. Teachers need prep time, but not at the expense of our children's classroom time. Other priorities include: · Further improving test scores. · Ensuring that all facilities are in good condition for our children. · Bringing business sense to the board. · Aligning accountability standards with curriculum and materials. · Ensuring five full days of instruction per week. Please support me so that Fullerton Parents can have at least ONE representative on the School Board that is not influenced by a financial debt of gratitude to a special interest group. We need your time, support and financial assistance. Please contact me if you would like to help. Donations can be sent to: Committee to elect Chris Thompson 1659 N.
