Build City Hall At No Additional Cost To Taxpayers

By Lance R. MacLean

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Mission Viejo

This information is provided by the candidate
Make city government accountable to build city hall at no additional cost to taxpayers as promised.
On March 7, 2000 the residents of Mission Viejo were given the opportunity to voice their opinion regarding building a city hall. Of the three options presented in Measure K (lease, buy, build) the voters chose to build a city hall as the best and most economical option. The advisory measure passed by the voters was specific on three issues: 1) size of 47,750 square feet, 2) Location at Marguerite and La Paz across from the Library, 3) Cost of between $10 - $12 million with bond payments (principle & interest) not to exceed the current city lease payments so there would be NO additional cost to taxpayers.

Recently, plans have been submitted and approved to build a facility of approximately 52,000 square feet which is 9% larger than approved by voters. In addition, questions have been raised regarding the adequacy of parking as well as potential entrance and exit limitations. Finally, cost figures to build are now estimated to be at least $15 million! Don't let your vote be ignored. I pledge to hold the city accountable for building the city hall as promised at NO ADDITIONAL COST TO TAXPAYERS.
