To maintain a high level of scholastic achievement, continued emphasis must be given to communication skills, reading, writing and spelling. In my 4 years as a School Board member, I have constantly recruited volunteers for reading programs for "at risk" students in our elementary schools. I have also worked for the implementation of "No Social Promotion", higher achievement standards and stiffer graduation requirements.

Safety plans for all schools sites in the District are a must. A child can not be expected to learn, if he/she is in fear of their safety. School administrative staff, as well as teachers, should be taught to recognize situations on school campuses that are potential threats to students.

The teaching of the latest technology is a must for our students to succeed. This requires an on-going commitment to provide our students with the appropriate computer tools.

Funding is a problem for our District. The state formula for funding school districts must be changed. The State and Federal governments are constantly mandating new guidelines to the schools, but do not provide funds necessary to implement these mandates. We must pressure our State and Federal representatives for a more equitable share of government dollars for our district.
