Smart Voter Political Philosophy for William J. "Bill" Dalton

Candidate for
Mayor; City of Garden Grove

This information is provided by the candidate

When I was elected to the City Council in 1998, I retired as a Garden Grove Police Lieutenant in order to devote my energy to making our City a better and safer place. It is time for a change in the Mayor's office.

I am determined to uphold both the letter and the spirit of term limits, which Garden Grove enacted in 1996. In today's day and age many typical politicians seek to remain in office forever. I am not a typical politician. I will comply with the City's terms limit ordinance, not seek loopholes.

We have an outstanding police department, however, we have lost many of our fine police officers to other cities, and have become a kind of training place for other departments. It is not just about money--it is about fair and respectful treatment by city officials. I promise to restore that respect for all city employees.

While on the City Council I have seen how much the City has given away to developers. While I support continued redevelopment, as mayor I will fight for responsible redevelopment putting the best interests of our residents first.

I want to put the people back in politics. I want to restore public comments to the televised portion of City Council meetings. I want to restore public involvement in the budget process. I want to restore respect for our public safety personnel.

I would appreciate your vote for Mayor.
