Candidate for
Member, City Council; City of Huntington Beach

This information is provided by the candidate

Gil Coerper's life can best be described as one dedicated to public service. For almost four decades, Gil's top priority has been the safety of your family and our community. Serving as a police officer for the past 36 years, Gil has developed the skills necessary of an outstanding city council member: listening, reasoning and decision making. Fellow officers recognized these traits in Gil and elected him to statewide organizations, first the California Peace Officer's Memorial Foundation and the other to the Board of Directors in the California Peace Officer's Reasearch Association.

But Gil's training in leadership began long before he wore a police badge. At 18, Gil joined the U.S. Navy and served 4 years of active duty. It was in the military that Gil learned the true meaning of leadership, integrity, and accountability. These traits will undoubtedly provide great direction and stability to our city council.

Gil's contributions to our community reach far beyond police work. Because of his dedication to Huntington Beach youth activities, Gil has been recognized by our local Boy Scout of America. He has been active in every aspect of local schools, from grad nights to sports boosters. Gil honors his military experience by recruiting local youths to attend West Point Military Academy and is volunteering in the California State Military Reserve.

Though Gil has been busy serving our community, his family has always come first. He and his wife, Louann, have enjoyed 27 years of marriage, raising two sons, Scott and Michael. As a resident of Huntington Beach for almost 40 years, Gil understands the issues that concern our community: schools, development, public safety, and government accountability. As a Huntington Beach City Council member, Gil will dedicate himself to us as he has to his family and profession.
