Candidate for
Member, City Council; City of Laguna Beach

This information is provided by the candidate

I grew up in southern California born fifty-two years ago. After university where I majored in government, I became a working artist in the field of photographic and silkscreen prints.

I then took a detour into building and real estate development for seventeen years. This business experience has left me with capabilities in conducting forthright and honest negotiations, as well as how to get things done on time and under budget.

One of the principle reasons I moved to Laguna Beach eleven years ago was to resume my printmaking career. Before that, I lived for my entire life sixty miles up the road in Los Angeles. There, I had a front row seat watching how LA grew from a spacious, roomy, and friendly town, only to become a less and less attractive place to live and work.

The ever-increasing unchecked pattern of development has made it inhospitable to all, especially for raising families. LA became choked with traffic and density because it lacked a consistent and reasoned planning process. Fortunately, I know what mistakes LA made.

As a real estate developer, relying on my creative instincts, I built projects only if they were in concert with the surrounding neighborhoods. I am proud to say that I fought city hall in numerous instances such as saving irreplaceable specimen street trees and won. As a B-1 general contractor

I learned what steps will need to be taken in order to protect and preserve the character of Laguna Beach.

With your support I will be a watchdog protecting this jewel we call home: Laguna Beach.

Thank you

Jacob Cherub
