Why Elect Steve Bromberg to the Newport Beach City Council?

By Steve Bromberg

Candidate for City Council; City of Newport Beach; District 5

This information is provided by the candidate
I am dedicated to enhancing, not simply maintaing, the Quality of Life we all expect and deserve in Newport Beach.
My wife Ronnie and I moved to Newport Beach 14 years ago. We fell in love with this city as tourists some 30 years ago, and we were determined to make Newport Beach our home. We have accomplished that goal with pride.

Quality of life is a phrase we have heard for a long time and which we respect and cherish. In Newport Beach we also respect and deserve the very best "quality of life."

As a City Councilman in Newport Beach, I will be dedicated, as I am now, to managing our traffic, development and open space sensibly and with proper balance. I will be, as I am now, dedicated to slowing our growth also in a sensible and realistic manner. Balanced growth and development are healthy and have brought our city to be the wonderful place that it is now. Excessive and unrestricted growth and development are unhealthy and can cause as much blight as no growth.

As a City Councilman, I will also be dedicated to actively participating in moving forward with extending the John Wayne Airport settlement agreement.

In December 2005, our existing JWA settlement agreement will expire. Without an extension of that agreement, the 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. flight curfew will expire. This simply means planes will fly over our homes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It will take a great deal of effort and leadership to resolve this problem. Moving forward with dedication to acquiring El Toro as a commercial airport is a must.

Our bay is not only our city's most valuable resource, it is the backyard for all of us. The silt in our bay is toxic, and I am committed to improving our water quality. This is also a must.

I have pledged to our senior groups that finding and maintaining affordable senior housing in our city is one of my most highest priorities. Our seniors have built this city and truly deserve the very best.

The issues facing our city must be approached with proper leadership and experience. As the current chair and 8-year member of our city's Civil Service Commission, combined with my experience as a 3-term, 6-year president of my homeowner's association, and with the numerous committees on which I have chaired and served, I have that experience. As a former Marine, I also have the discipline to accomplish these goals efficiently and effectively. I am prepared to fight for you.

Proudly, I have received the support of the Airport Working Group, as well as the Newport Beach Fire Fighters.

I am asking for your support and for your vote. If you wish to discuss these issues, it would be my pleasure to do so. Simply give me a call. Thank you.
