The Budget Deficit

By Scott P. Brady

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Placentia

This information is provided by the candidate
The City of Placentia, with limited means, cannot afford to run deficits as we are expected to have.
This year the city will raid the contingency fund $750,000. The contingency fund stands at $2,500,000. At the pace we are currently exhausting this fund, it will be gone within 4 years. The contingency fund is just that, a fund for the unexpected. It should not be used to fund the expected and the unnecessary.

This city, because it is a bedroom community, does not have the sales tax revenue of some of our neighbors. Like the typical family that lives in this city, Placentia must learn to live within its means. If we want to eliminate the utility tax, we must then reduce expenses elsewhere.

Fiscal responsbility is paramount for our leaders. Projects and programs should not be legislated without the tacit approval of the public.
