Public Safety

By Bill Borden

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Huntington Beach

This information is provided by the candidate
Every man woman and child in the city has the right to feel safe at home, in school, and on the streets of our city.
Here in Huntington Beach we are fortunate to have been named America's Safest City and, by an OC Register poll, the Best Place to Live in Orange County. We earned these distinctions for two main reasons. Our citizens are responsible and law abiding of course, but also and of equal importance, we have the finest Police Officers, Fire Fighters, and Water Safety Officers in the State. Our Police Officers put on badges, service revolvers, and bullet proof vests every day to protect us from those who would do us harm. Our Fire Fighters don gas masks and fire proof suits to pull children from burning buildings. They save hundreds of lives each year and regularly work grueling 12 hour shifts. The Water Safety Officers (lifeguards) on our beaches are the most professional in the nation. They brave rip tides and enormous surf to pull swimmers in trouble to safety. These brave men and Women deserve recognition, the respect of City Council, and fair compensation for their life saving work.
