Keep the Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach

By Wayne Baglin

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Laguna Beach

This information is provided by the candidate
The highjacking of Laguna's cultural institutions must stop. However, this will only happen if residents support the arts in Laguna with their time and money. The city must be a partner.
1. The city should propose to the Festival a lease arrangement that dedicates the major portion of Festival income to support a revenue bond issued by the city to renovate and improve the Irvine Bowl and park.
2. A master plan of redevelopment should be adopted by mutual agreement between the city and the Festival.
3. The city should receive an equitable lease payment from the Festival. Excessive rent to finance city general fund programs should be eliminated from the lease formula.
4. The bowl and park grounds should be made available for additional cultural and community events throughout the year.
