I am a public policy-trained attorney and business manager. I am the only serious candidate for the Healthcare District Board who is not a healthcare professional. While this Board deals at every meeting with legal and financial issues, no one on the Board has any expertise in these areas. During my 22 years of legal practice I never went to court. My practice focused on bringing people together, finding solutions to problems, negotiation, mediation and resolution of disputes without the waste of litigation. A year ago a client asked me to give up my legal practice and manage her business. This has given me the responsibility for managing lawyers, negotiating agreements, reviewing and understanding financial statements. This professional background is exactly what my supporters believe is needed on the District Board today. I live in the Ross Valley with my wife, Linda Gaudiani, MD, and our four children (yes, and two dogs). Linda is an endocrinologist which means she deals with diseases of glands and hormones, primarily diabetes and thyroid disease. Our children Hilary, Greg, Vince and Olivia have attended local schools--two are now in college. I was born and raised in Santa Cruz, attending Santa Cruz High School, like my father and grandparents, where I was student body president and played basketball (poorly). Like my opponent, although 30 years later, I attended Haverford College in Pennsylvania where I met my wife and majored in English and political science. Before returning to California in 1977 I attended law school and the John Fitzgerald Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University where I received degrees in law and public policy. |
