Accountability, fiscal responsibility, and a safe, reliable water supply for consumption and fire safety -- these are my priorities for our water district. We can accomplish these goals through sustainable policies that protect our environment and quality of life. But this requires leaders who listen.

When we passed Measure V in 1992, we sent a clear message to MMWD: water conservation and recycling programs are the most cost-effective, sustainable, and reliable ways to improve our water supply. They must be pursued first, before building a $20 million pipeline to the Russian River.

Yet MMWD now spends less on conservation and recycles less water than it did six years ago. Meanwhile, the incumbent, supported by pro-growth and real estate interests, is pushing for immediate construction of the Russian River pipeline -- despite the conclusion of MMWD's Citizens' Advisory Committee that building the project at this time makes no sense.

I pledge to re-commit MMWD to a course of water conservation, recycling, and fiscal accountability. I'll also be vigilant in safeguarding our water from the increasing threat of toxins such as pesticides. MMWD customers must know their water supply is reliable, affordable, and of the highest quality.
