Smart Voter Political Philosophy for John W. Lantz

Candidate for
Member, Board of Directors; Three Valleys Municipal Water District; Division 6

This information is provided by the candidate

John W. Lantz is running for the Three Valleys Municipal Water District Board in order to provide professional engineering and management experience to the Board in meeting its goals for the water users of the District. Mr. Lantz holds strong convictions for professional operation of a water system while maintaining strong fiscal policies. His finincial and operations experience has been gained while managing the Water Divisions of Riverside and Burbank.

He has experience with the California regulatory agencies and the EPA Region IX through Consent Decrees, local water clean-up activities, and Interagency Coordinating Committee activites. He believes that local water resource redevelopment is essential to meet the water needs of the future while improving drinking water quality. Resource redevelopment, reclaimed water use, and groundwater clean-up opportunities are available in its member agencies and the District could assist these efforts.

Mr. Lantz has been directly involved with the chromium 6 issue through a special Chromium Task Force for the last two years. Burbank recently hosted the California Senate Hearing on the issue. He believes that the regulatory agencies should fast track the establishment of a standard for chromium 6 in compliance with the state laws for drinking water.

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) is the provider of supplemental water to the District. MWD charges are the largest expense item for the District. It is necessary, therefore, to become more actively involved in MWD policies, operations, and financial issues so that the District can be assured of equitable water rates and water availability. Mr. Lantz has worked directly with MWD staff and Directors while at Burbank as a MWD Agency Manager and past MWD Director. The new rate structure requires close attention because of its financial implications for the future.
