Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Robert Kopanski

Candidate for
Member, Board of Directors; Antelope Valley-East Kern Water Agency; Division 4

This information is provided by the candidate

I believe the mission of the AVEK Board of Directors should be to provide leadership and direction for the Water Agency. This responsibility includes insuring a clean, quality product, controlling costs, and reducing water rates whenever practical.

My goal for AVEK is to increase the Water Agency's income, which would in turn lower customers' water rates. In order to accomplish this I would:

  • explore the feasibility of using the flowing water in the aqueduct to generate electricity (which AVEK would then sell to the Edison Company at a profit).

  • explore the feasibility of increasing agricultural use of AVEK surplus allotments of water, possibly by transporting this water in open, concrete-lined ditches (thus avoiding the cost of expensive pipelines, and using agriculture rather than continued population growth to generate income for the Valley).
