Water is the key to this valley's future: it is not simply a matter of having enough water, but rather managing it for the good of our residents. This agenda is often at odds with the direction and decisions of the present Board. They seem interested in encouraging new development by means that will cost current residents their water quality, water bills, and the enjoyment of the Santa Clara River. They seem to be willing to gather control of ALL the water in the SCV, then ceding control of that water to the larger Los Angeles water interests such as the Metropolitan Water District. They are taking risks in representing to the Board of Supervisors that they have water for new development, when there are certain to be shortfalls.
Your water bills will go up as demand outstrips supply. Your river will be changed dramatically if water tables are lowered by excessive pumping. Your water quality will suffer if we lower standards without adequate scientific and environmental basis for doing so. Your ability to do anything about this will be lost unless we maintain local control of our water companies. Shouldn't those who benefit from new development be the ones to pay for it? I am against saddling our current residents with these osts.
