With different roles, but a shared vision for "Excellence in Education," everyone who is part of the Kern High School District must work in a cooperative team effort. The Olympics are probably still fresh in our minds and what a great metaphor it presents for education. Thousands of people worked together with the ultimate goal of ensuring the athletes had success on the playing field. Those athletes are like our students. They came from very different backgrounds; had varying degrees of abilities, adversities, motivations; training techniques; even expectations for what they would realistically accomplish. Not everyone could win a gold medal anymore than all Kern High School students could become a valedictorian of their respective high schools. However, even with all the support those Sydney athletes received from the Olympic Committees, coaches; parents; their communities; event staff; down to Olympic Village personnel and more; ultimately those athletes had to realize the value of their Olympic experience and be personally responsible for how they performed on the playing field. It is important we to instill that attitude in our students. They must value learning by attending and actively participating in their classes; completing assignments and following campus rules set to ensure their safety. With different roles, but a shared vision for "Excellence in Education" everyone who is a part of the Kern High School District must work in a cooperative team effort. The Board of Trustees as the governing body "determines general policies and guidelines."As chief executive officer, the Superintendent "directs all educational and business functions." The administration "formulates and administers policies." We know the critical and important direct role the teachers play. Many and varied support staff ensure the smooth operation of each campus. Parents are vital to the support and success of their students by determining and reinforcing respective family values; helping their children to choose and excell in the appropriate course of study whether it is college prep,or a school-to-career program. Our community members have opportunites to help our students. The many ways include mentoring, volunteering in the classroom or for student activities, financial assistance to the Educational Foundation or other school organizations, attending an athletic or performing arts event. |
