Candidate for Board Member; Lamont School District

This information is provided by the candidate
An Advocate for the children of Lamont. A candidate who is committed and objective. Continue the commitment, continue the progress, in building bridges for tomorrow's leaders.
During my 8 years as a Trustee of the Lamont School District, I have worked together with our board and community to bring quality education and services to this school district. We have seen the Healthy Start Program funded, we have developed the Lamont/Weedpatch Family Services Center that provides services to the residents of this community. In order to establish these two vital programs we developed one of the most active and organized Neighborhood Partnership in Kern County, serving as an example to other communities in this county as well as the State. In the past 4 years we have seen changes within our district, that were made in order to accommodate student population. We instituted a 4-track year school calendar in order to accommodate the growing student population of Lamont. We instituted a district wide dress code and uniform code for students. In the past year and half we have seen more programs and changes in our district that I believe enhance the students' education, as well as helping the community. A few of those programs and changes are:
Sheriff's Activity League at Mt. View Middle School
Abandonment of Multiple Track Year Round Education
Establishment of a Modified Traditional Calendar
Modernization/Growth Programs for all school facilities
Accelerated Reader Program
Acquisition of Afterschool Programs at all four schools
District Wide Mandatory Uniform Dress Code
Funding for a new school in our district

In it's continued efforts the Lamont School District has worked and collaborated with various agencies in the community of Lamont. Lamont School District secured various programs that meet the needs of the families of Lamont. We currently are working with the following agencies:

Kern County Network for Children Clinica Sierra Vista
Department of Human Services
Kern County Mental Health Department
Vineland School District AMERICORPS

Through these programs we have been able to obtain the following services:

Activities targeting 6th - 8th grade girls
Case Management, Linking children and families to services
Substance abuse prevention activities
Linking children and families to counseling services
Nutrition education
Linking pregnant teens to services Physical activity program

When you go to vote, remember Ruben Burciaga made a commitment 8 years ago and will continue this commitment for the next 4 years.

Since education is the foundation or our children's future, a vote for Ruben Burciaga, will secure continuing commitment and dedication to their success.
