Establish FRES-Yes! partnership between the City of Fresno, the City of Clovis, public schools, and private sector partners with the goals of making Fresno, Central and Clovis Unified School Districts among the best peforming school districts in California.
- Education Partnership - The partnership would be patterned on the Fresno Compact, a consortium of public schools, companies, and not-for-profit organizations committed to advancing public education. Have the FRES Yes! education partnership implement, where possible, the recommendations in "Critical Issues for Educational Success", the 1998 report by The Commission on the Future of Education in Fresno County. This proactive effort was created to respond to shared concerns expressed by parents, business and community leaders. The purpose is to improve our schools, raising academic standards and student performance, and to insure that all students graduate with the skills and knowledge necessary to prepare them for a successful future in the new millennium. The Commission identified critical issues and made important recommendations regarding education restructuring and reform; performance expectations for students and teachers; local, state and federal education governance policies; School-to-Work and employment competency programs; language competency; and school safety.
- Student Accountability - Support Fresno Unified's "Vision for Success" accountability plan.
- Technology Initiative - Link K-12 technology initiatives, such as the Center for Advanced Research and Technology (CART), with the Central Valley Business Incubator and Entrepreneurial Resource Center, the Fresno City College Training Institute, and other training entities.
- Community Service - Link classrooms and the community through community service projects, such as restoring rivers while students study science, biology and chemistry. High school students, for example, might tutor younger students.
- Character Counts - Expand Clovis Unified's Character Counts! program to all Fresno area schools. Expand after-school programs. An excellent model is UC-Links, an after-school program at Fresno Unified's Carver School, operated by the University of California, California State University-Fresno, Fresno City College, and the Fresno Unified School District.
