I believe that the city council should respond to the people as well as an incoming developer. I feel that our county needs to be proactive and really get involved at ground level. I have worked in development for five years and always our best projects were the ones that the local government actually helped in the design phase. We need to have our staff work concurrently with the developer to make their project beautiful, feasible, and what we want.
I advocate quality growth. What I mean by that is growth but making sure it is not out of control. Placerville needs more shopping. Placerville city residents have to go down to Sacramento all the time to do their shopping and I believe that Placerville has the capability to house these necessities. I don't believe that large commercial stores will hurt the local merchants. Most of the shops downtown are specialty shops that people go to because they are on Main St. I have never been sitting at home and decided that I need to go out to Wal-Mart to buy an antique lamp. I would like to point out how well the theater is doing. Before we had two very small theaters that contained six screens. Now we have a very nice theater that has eight screens. The developers did a very good job on the theater and that really adds to the pleasantness of Placerville.
I feel that elected officials are by the people and for the people. It is our elected duty to do what is best for the community. We have to make the people happy. That's what we are here for. |
