An Advanced BART

By George W. Steffner

Candidate for Director, Dist 1; S.F. Bay Area Rapid Transit District; Area 1

This information is provided by the candidate
The system, its improvements and its enhancements should be technologically advanced, economically sensible and environmentally cooperative.
I will carefully examine future efforts and present conditions to ensure they are worth taxpayers expense, provide optimal safety and offer the best facilities that can be developed. I want to help make BART a superior system with the least impact on its environment. I want it to be a leading alternative or enhancement for other means of transportation.

That can be accomplished by ultimately connecting the peninsula line to the Fremont line. A shunt from Dublin to Walnut Creek or Pleasant Hill is also past due. Encouraging connecting commercial van pools and improved bus connections would make the system more useful. Parking, of course, needs improvement immediately.

Extensions and seismic upgrades must be done in a manner that provides the best value. Performing them in a manner that sacrifices too much of other necessities, or not under reasonable guidelines, wastes effort and resources.

Technological advances should be incorporated where they will create better patron and employee convenience and safety. Internet accounts and scanner entry for regular commuters could be one enhancement.

I will act in the best interest of patrons, employees and taxpayers to accomplish these goals.
