Candidate's Statement Orinda Union School District Board My experience working on behalf of Orinda's schools includes serving on the board of the Educational Foundation of Orinda, the Glorietta School Site Council, co-chair of the strategic planning communications committee, and committee member for OUSD's parcel tax campaign. As an active member of Glorietta's Parents' Club, I have tackled a variety of jobs including chairing the auction, coordinating fine arts programs, and teaching Drug Alcohol and Tobacco Education (DATE) classes. I believe these experiences have given me valuable insight into our schools' strengths, opportunities, and challenges. I would consider it an honor to serve on the OUSD board. If elected, I would work to ensure that all OUSD students receive an academically sound education from a rich and stimulating curriculum. Moreover, I believe that another goal for education is to fully develop the intellectual and social abilities of each child. To achieve these goals, I would bring a balanced perspective, open lines of communications, commitment to securing the necessary financial resources, and respect for the students and educators in our school district. I earned a B.A. from Northwestern University and have enjoyed a professional career in nonprofit development. As the mother of two elementary school-aged children, I have a vested interest in continuing Orinda's tradition of exceptional schools. As a board member, I would bring a wealth of experience to the job from my work on school issues at both the district and school site levels. |
