Julie Pierce has actively served the citizens of Clayton for the last 14 years. Julie's family moved to Central Contra Costa in 1973, and all came to love the Clayton area. In 1984, Julie & Steve bought their home in Clayton. As a member of the Westwood Homeowner's Association Board, Julie pushed for completion of amenities promised by the developer, meeting frequently with City of Clayton officials. As parents of two Eagle Scouts, Julie & Steve have always been actively involved in Scouting activities. Steve & Julie chartered Troop 484 in Clayton in 1988 with the sponsorship of the Clayton Business and Community Association. Steve has been an active Cubmaster and Scoutmaster since 1983. Julie has served on many Troop committees as well as at the District Level of Scouting. Though the "boys" are grown and on their own now, Steve continues to be an active Scouter for District and Council programs and Julie continues to serve as a merit badge counselor. Julie also served as Treasurer for Clayton Valley High School Grad Night in 1992 and 1994, when her "boys" were seniors. Julie's Custom Dressmaking and Design business has flourished in Clayton since 1984. She is widely known for her custom wedding gowns and Senior Ball gowns, as well as her fitting expertise. The flexibility of her home-based business allowed Julie to be at home for her boys while they were growing up as well as the time to devote to City business. Julie has served on the Clayton City Council since 1992, as Mayor in 1995, and currently is Vice Mayor. Prior to that, Julie served on the Clayton Planning Commission from 1987 to 1992, serving as vice-chair from 1988 through 1991, and as chair in 1992. Over the years, she has worked with many community groups on projects for the betterment of the City. Many of those accomplishments are detailed elsewhere on this web page. Julie has an extensive background knowledge of the issues facing Clayton. Julie is a Council Member who is receptive to the citizens and their concerns, with the ability to put aside personal issues and respond to what the community needs. She is a leader with integrity, who communicates openly and honestly about issues. She is a team-builder who works cooperatively with all members of the community and City staff. Julie is a logical and independent thinker with the strength to make the tough decisions facing Clayton. |
