I was born and reared in Martinez, California. A graduate of Alhambra High Schoool where I was a band member, varsity athelete and elected office holder. Attending St. Mary's College my BS degree was in Geology and Zoology. My military service was in the Navy Medical Corps. Higher degrees were earned as a Masters Degree from the University of the Pacific in Marine Biology and a Doctors Degree in Science Education from the University of California Berkeley.

I was licensed to practice Medical Laboratory procedures and worked in this profession. As an educator I taught chemistry, physics and physiology in high schools and taught in later years at the University of San Francisco State, University of California, Berkeley and

In community affairs: I am a member of the Lions Club; Contra Costa Hospital Auxilliary; was Vice President of John Muir Memorial Association; was Commissioner of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission; Environmental Alliance, cofounder with William Penn Mott.
I am married with three children: My wife is a public health nurse. My three children are: One is An Assistant District Attorney; another Designer-Contractor; and an Elementary School Teacher, now a home maker.
