Pauline Weaver has been a Fremont resident for twenty years. She is committed to this community, and her participation in civic affairs is exceptional. Besides her many professional organizations, she has been an active member of the Fremont Planning Commission, the Board of Shelter Against Violent Environments (SAVE), the Fremont Sister City Commission, Rotary International, the Fremont Symphony Guild, and many other community organizations.

Pauline was born in England and came to the United States with her parents at the age of eleven. She graduated from the University of Memphis in Tennessee and also received her law degree from there. After passing the State Bar of California in 1980, she became a Public Defender for Alameda County and is currently a Deputy Public Defender in the Oakland office. As a public defender, she provides legal services for those in the community who have been accused of crimes but cannot afford to hire a private lawyer, helping to give all citizens the right to legal counsel.

Pauline has worked for years as an advocate for health and human services for all of Fremont's citizens. She has been honored for her work by being named a "Community Hero" by the Alameda County Fair/Lions Club this year. She has also been named "Criminal Lawyer of the Year" by the Alameda County Lawyers Club; she was a "Salute to Women" award winner from the Oakland YWCA; and was 1988 "Woman of the Year" in the 19th Assembly District. She has been recognized by law organizations for outstanding service, volunteerism, and professionalism.

She has been a board member of Shelter Against Violent Environments for thirteen years, served as chair for four terms, co-founded SAVE's Legal Clinic Program, and served on nominating, recruitment, and bylaws committees. She is currently on the Board of the Washington Hospital Healthcare Foundation, as well as the Baywood and Sequoia Housing Boards in Fremont. The Board of Eden Housing (a non-profit developer of affordable housing) has had her serve as a member for the last ten years. She has been a member of League of Women Voters for over twenty years, and of the American Association of University Women, Fremont Symphony Guild, and the Friends of the Library for nearly that long.

Previously, Pauline has served on the Boards of Deaf Informed Communications of Fremont, the Fremont Cultural Arts Council, the Parent Information Network, and the Child Abuse Prevention Agency. She served on the City's Sister City Commission for eight years and is in her fourth year as a City Planning Commissioner.

Pauline has been very active in legal associations, and is a founding member and past president of the National Conference of Women's Bar Associations. She has served on many committees and divisions of the American Bar Association, the Alameda County Bar Association, and the State Bar of California, and was 1987-88 president of California Women Lawyers.
