Political Philosophy for Eleanor E. Pepples

|
Eleanor Pepples stands firmly in favor of a government that is truly by and for the people. She wants a government that listens to all the citizens, not just a select few when making decisions that affect us all. ELEANOR PEPPLES: CANDIDATE'S STATEMENT I am running for City Council because I want to make Berkeley an even better place to live. Our district deserves an articulate, intelligent and fully involved representative on the council. I believe that the Berkeley Hills District needs a council member who will work across party lines to end the gridlock in city politics and accomplish objectives that benefit our citizens. We need a representative in government who will listen to the needs of the people, understand and respond with fresh ideas. I am not only committed to my community, but also have the real world business experience necessary to effectively represent the interests of both my district and the City of Berkeley. I have over 15 years of experience in business including a great deal of interaction with East Bay communities. I want to be your representative in City Council and believe that I am the best person for the job. I will listen to the needs of my community and will work tirelessly to advance the issues important to the residents of Berkeley and my district. As your representative on the council, I will work to improve our fire safety and fire preparedness, see that our roads are fixed and our sewers upgraded where necessary, and ensure that utilities are placed underground. The incumbent may have talked about these needs in the past, but it's time to get the job done. It's time our district had a leader not a follower on the council. If elected, I will continue to preserve our parks. I will be a strong proponent of reasonable growth and livable planning decisions as the City develops and implements the new General Plan. I am committed to investing in our schools, public safety and public transportation. Investment in the City's infrastructure will not only benefit current residents, but will build a solid foundation for our future. Given the high tax burden that Berkeley residents already face, where possible, we must try to reduce that burden, or at least prevent future increases. We need to get more done with our tax dollars. The needs facing our district have not been adequately met over the past eight years, and I believe that a change in representation is necessary to ensure that they are addressed going forward. A detailed statement of my position on areas critical to city government is set forth on page 4 of this document. I ask for your support and your vote to bring a new voice and a new vision to city government here in Berkeley. Eleanor Pepples Candidate for Berkeley City Council District 6 (Berkeley Hills) |
