Alameda ranks 15th out of 17 school districts in Alameda county in school funding levels. This inequiatble process was created as a result of Proposition 13. Fixing this inequity will take time since the higher funded school districts do not want to have their funding reduced. As a result, Alameda will have less financial resources compared to surrounding school districts. This directly affects our ability to pay competitive salaries to our staff. Therefore, to retain and attract quality employees, we need to fundamentally change our budgeting process to place the highest priority on raising employee salaries.
