This information is provided by the candidate
I was born and raised in San Mateo, California. After teaching in Knoxville, Tennessee and for the U.S. Department of Defense in Stuttgart, Germany, I began teaching in Alameda in 1968. My husband, Ed, and I moved to Alameda with our two daughters, Sylvia and Jennifer, in 1973. For the past 32 years I have been involved in the educational issues of Alameda as a parent, teacher, and community activist.
Between 1968 and 1999, I was fortunate to teach at every grade level, from preschool through high school in the Alameda Unified School District. I am familiar with curriculum, local and state testing programs, and the needs of special and alternative education students. As a representative to the California Teachers Association State Council, I worked on state standards and legislative policy. As a Department Chairperson at Alameda High, I served on the School Site Council and the Principal's Council. Throughout my career, I have worked with parents and helped them in their efforts to gain the best educational services possible for their children.
