Candidate for
Member of the State Assembly; District 41

This information is provided by the candidate

David Freeman has spent his career changing public policy

and public attitudes.

Born and raised in Tennessee, Dave Freeman helped

desegregate lunch counters in the South.

With both an engineering and law degree, Freeman went to

work for the Kennedy Administration's Federal Power

Commission and in the United States Senate.

Lyndon Johnson made Dave Freeman the first person to

coordinate national energy policy. Freeman helped establish

the Environmental Protection Agency.

His reputation and knowledge led Freeman to serve as

President Carter's Energy Advisor. Carter later named

Freeman Chairman of the Tennessee Valley Authority, the

largest public utility in the nation.

Dave Freeman has held top positions at Lower Colorado

River Authority, Sacramento Municipal Utility District and

New York Power Authority.

Freeman closed down nine nuclear power plants and

successfully introduced energy conservation and efficiency

projects at all of the utilities he headed. He saved

consumers billions of dollars as a result of his

cost-cutting and energy saving programs.

Freeman was among the first executives to help women break

through the "glass ceiling." The Urban League honored him

for advancing the interests of minorities.

The National Wildlife Federation named Freeman

"Conservationist of the Year." He also received the United

Nations "Award for Extraordinary Contribution to the

Environment."

In Los Angeles, Mayor Riordan named Dave Freeman to serve

as General Manager of the Los Angeles Department of Water

and Power. He continues to be a leading practioner of

energy conservation and renewable resource development.

Mayor Riordan says, "Dave Freeman has done a tremendous

job." Consumer Advocate Ralph Nader commended Freeman's

work, saying, "Dave Freeman is a most remarkable man. He is

now anti-nuclear, pro-conservation and solar power."
