Background as it applies to a judicial position

By Katherine Mader

Candidate for Judge of the Superior Court; Office 31

This information is provided by the candidate
My varied background makes me an ideal candidate for judge, and distinguishes me from my opponents.
Please consider the following:

As the Los Angeles Police Department's first inspector general I actively and independently promoted the role of the public in oversight of the disciplinary system of the police department. Both the accountability and efficiency of the Department were strengthened as a result of recommendations from the Office of the Inspector General;
As a prosecutor for over ten years I conducted every type of criminal trial. I have also prosecuted corruption cases involving both public officials as well as police officers;
As a criminal defense attorney for more than thirteen years I represented criminal defendants in all types of criminal matters.

My background has enabled me to work closely with victims of violent crimes, police officers of every rank, and criminal defendants. My experience as the LAPD's inspector general gave me an understanding of the policing infrastructure from the inside out. I know what's working - and what needs fixing.
