Born in Hamburg, Germany, 1941, immigrated to California in 1961. Volunteer Regular US Army. Military interpreter-translator. U.S. Army Officers Candidate School. Graduate of UC Berkeley. Recipient of national Defense Foreign Language Act and national Science Foundation Fellowships. Graduate study UC Berkeley under Cal Vet and GI Bill. Married to Marilyn Benemann since 1966. our son Karl (Cisco) lives in Ferndale, goes to College of the Redwoods and says he will still vote for me. Resident of Humboldt County for 24 years. Started Ferndale Books in 1981, Eureka Books in 1986. Former president of Berkeley Alumni Association of Humboldt/Del Norte Counties. Former President Ferndale Chamber of Commerce. Vice Chairman Humboldt County Association of Governments, member Redwood Region Economic Development Commission, Board Member Humboldt County Waste management Authority, Charter Member Humboldt County Vietnam Veterans of America Association. I love riding my horses down the coast from Petrolia, hunting with my son, and reading my books before I sell them at my bookstores. Marilyn and I are both community-minded and have served in various volunteer capacities. (Marilyn was president of the Ferndale Repertory Theatre and Chamber of Commerce.) Over the years, and as a member of various county-wide boards and committees, I became well-acquainted with the issues and decisions facing Humboldt County. Paramount are issues that have influence over the entire county, not just the First District. My pledge is to be a supervisor for the county as a whole, without parochial or partisan politics to influence my decisions. I am well aware that the business of government requires constant attention and energetic presence to deal with the unglamorous daily grind of administrative issues. I enjoy it. Because of my experience as mayor, administrator and businessman: I know when to delegate and when to take charge. I have the energy and experience. I hope you will vote for me as your supervisor |
