Shall the Board of Directors of the Blue Lake Fire Protection District be empowered and authorized to adopt Ordinance No. 99-1 establishing a special tax to be used for fire protection and prevention and emergency medical response services for the purpose of obtaining, furnishing, operating, and maintaining fire suppression and emergency medical response equipment or apparatus and for such other necessary fire protection and prevention and emergency medical response expenses of the District?
The proposed ordinance will authorize the Blue Lake Fire District to collect a special tax in the same manner and subject to the same penalty as, or with, other charges to taxes fixed and collected by Humboldt County on behalf of the Fire District: the County may deduct its reasonable costs incurred for such service before remittal of the balance to the Fire District. Each unit of special tax shall not exceed $9.00 each year and shall be levied on a use-of-property basis.

Arguments For Measure M | Arguments Against Measure M |
MEASURE M WILL ASSURE THAT YOUR FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT WILL CONTINUE TO RESPOND IMMEDIATELY TO YOUR CALL FOR EMERGENCY HELP.
This special tax is necessary to maintain adequate fire protection for the district. Without this special tax the capabilities of your district will be placed in jeopardy. This special tax provides the ability to keep safe operations and training of response personnel. Changes in Cal OSHA guidelines have increased the response personnel needed to properly fight structure fires. This special tax will allow for an increased membership that will meet this need. The Blue Lake Fire Protection District is working very hard to maintain a modern, highly progressive and efficient Fire Department servicing and protecting our community in time of emergency. Please join the Blue Lake Volunteer Fire Department and citizens of your community in support of your Fire District and vote yes on MEASURE M. s/Raymond Stonebarger, Chief Blue Lake Volunteer Fire Department
