Economic and Land-use Development

By Philip M. "Phil" Erdman

Candidate for Supervisor; County of Fresno; District 5

This information is provided by the candidate
We are known as the "garden basket of the world". So why do we have high unemployment and concern for land development?
We have an "uneven" economy that is based around agriculture. When the "ag" season is over, our unemployment goes up. We need a "diverse" economy that relies on more than one industry. Fresno County needs to attract clean resource industry and business that will attract and retain skilled and professional people. But first, there must be the "employable" people available before industry/business will consider moving in. I believe and support the "Jobs 2000" program, as well as meaningful and technical job training. We can raise the economic level if we commit to DIVERSIFY!

We are God's stewards of the land. There is only so much land that provides many purposes. I believe promoting RESPONSIBLE land use and development that always considers the Williamson Act, natural resources, infastructure concerns, transportaion issues, and the County's General Growth Plan.

County Government must collaborate with, not against, other municipalities, business, industry, labor, and the people, to effectively address these on-going and present issues.
