"I'm for controlled growth," Castillo said. "Let's work closely with developers and do the fill in projects first."

Downtown Stadium

"I would like to hear from the people who will be affected by my decisions," Castillo points out.

"Downtown revitalization is a key component in getting Fortune 500 companies to locate in Fresno," said Castillo, who attended the University of San Francisco on a soccer scholarship and studied business administration. "We have to offer companies more than just cheap labor and cheap land."

Water Meters

The candidates also support water meters. Here, again, Castillo's backing comes with a twist. He opposes the voluntary meter measure that will be on the March 7 ballot because, "some guy who owns a 3-acre property is going to stay on the flat rate."

Adds Castillo, "On the voluntary measure, residents who waste water will continue to waste water because they will not volunteer for a water meter. As a result, those who volunteer for meters will be those who are already conscientious of water consumption."
