We must look to the leadership of Contra Costa County government to develop innovative solutions in order to deliver the highest quality services to the electorate while getting the "biggest bang" for our tax dollars.Gayle proposed a new program for Contra Costa County - GRIP (Grant Review Improvement Program) that was supported by the Board of Supervisors. GRIP allocates $100,000 annually to be used for hiring grant writers to support and supplement county programs. Many state and federal grants are available, but Contra Costa County did not have the resources to apply for the funding. Using the $100,000 in "seed" money, the County now hires professional grant writers to prepare grant applications. In 1999, Contra Costa County received over $1.8 million in grants as a direct result of the GRIP program. That means for every dollar invested in a grant writer, Contra Costa County gained $18 in funding. This has proven to be an excellent way to grow our revenue. It makes sense to find available funding and bring it home to Contra Costa County. Gayle found a way! |
