When I was a youngster, I used to watch Roy Roger and Gene Autrey movies where the "good guy" always won and the damsel in distress was always rescued. As I've matured, I've come to realize that the "good guy" doesn't always win and the damsel in distress doesn't always get rescued. But, they SHOULD.

We are lucky to have many "rights" in our country, but we also have many "responsibilities. We have the responsibility to look after one another, to look after our community, and to look after our country.

For the past two years, I have been speaking at Hayward City Council meetings. Twice I have been evicted by the city council: once because I was answering a question by Council Member Matt Jimenez and another time to prevent me from speaking. I have been present at council meetings when senior citizens were insulted and threatened by the current members of the Hayward City Council. I have observed how the wants of developers and special interest groups always come before the needs of our citizens thanks to Jesus Armas, the current City Manager, and to generous campaign donations given to the members of council.

More importantly, I have heard the complaints, frustrations, and fears of so many of my fellow citizens that I decided to take action and run for office promoting the election of all 4 of the challengers.

Will campaign donations from developers and special interest groups win, again? We won't know until March 8th, 2000.

Good luck to the citizens of Hayward, the real "underdogs" in this years' elections.
