During the past four years significant development in Evendale has been fostered
by the Evendale Community Improvement Corporation's judicious use of tax incentives
and by the development of infrastructure. We have attracted more than 15 businesses to
Evendale having almost 1,500 employees.
There is more work yet to do. The new businesses have diversified and increased
our tax base. We must continue to diversify our tax base and to strengthen it. To
accomplish this we need to complete the development of the Evendale Business Park. We
also have the opportunity to foster further development along Reading Road which will
remove blight, diversify our tax base and increase our tax base. This development needs
to be done in a carefully planned manner keeping in mind our goals and also keeping in
mind aesthetic goals such as hillside preservation and preservation along the Millcreek. At
the same time we must remember that a plan is a guide and must be flexible enough to
meet changing conditions and demands.
A well planned development will not only improves our fiscal position and
removes blight but it can also provide for increased recreational opportunities. Such a
development can also expand the types of goods end services available in our Village.
Finally, we must remember that development is not a goal in and of itself, but it is a means
by which we can insure that we can provide continued first rate services for our
citizenry.
