The questions were prepared by the League of Women Voters of Hamilton County and asked of all candidates for this office. Read the answers from all candidates. Questions & Answers1. What are your views regarding the need for public transportation in your community to promote access to employment throughout the region?
If significant numbers of auto users would put their cars and ride light rail, I would support it. Unfortunately this has not been the case in other cities with relatively new light rail systems, and I don't think it would be the case here. I also feel voters will scoff at the cost of constructing a light rail system. 2. Would you be in favor of county-wide campaign finance regulations that would provide for public matching funds, limit campaign contributions and provide for more disclosure? State your opinions on these ideas; whether you would support or oppose them.
I support the idea of campaign finance reform. If you put all candidates on the same "promotional budget" you will see a much better focus on issues and I think people would become interested in the political process again. 3. What are the benefits/detriments to land use planning prior to zoning decisions?
The benefits are obvious. The citizens of a community have input in the developmental process and can manage the type of use (commercial versus residential ) as well as the balance and size (how much commercial versus how much residential). To see the detriments of not having land use planning and good zoning decisions just drive up Colerain Avenue and Beechmont Avenue. Enough said.
Responses to questions asked of each candidate are reproduced as submitted to the League, but formatted for Web display. Candidates were asked to limit their responses to 300 words for all 3 answers. Simple spelling or typographical errors were corrected after confirmation with the candidate. |
