BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Pat DeWine and Karen DeWine are the parents of two children. Michael is three years old and Matthew is one. Pat, Karen and their family live in the Cincinnati neighborhood of Mt. Lookout. Pat is the oldest of eight brothers and sisters. In 1990, Pat graduated summa cum laude from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. At Miami, he was a member of the Varsity Track and Cross Country teams. He received various academic scholarships and was selected as a national Harry Truman Scholarship alternate. In 1994, Pat graduated from the University of Michigan Law School, finishing in the top ten percent of his class and receiving Order of the Coif Honors. He was executive editor of the University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform and a Henry C. Campbell Moot Court semifinalist. In 1995, Pat served a one year clerkship for the Honorable David A. Nelson on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit based here in Cincinnati. Pat practices law with the firm of Keating, Muething & Klekamp, P.L.L., specializing in commercial litigation and appellate work. Pat has been active in several campaigns. He served as campaign manager for State Senator Cooper Snyder's 1988 reelection campaign, as Regional Director for George Voinovich's 1990 Gubernatorial Campaign, as Political Director for his father Mike DeWine during his 1992 Senate Campaign, and as Issues Director during Mike DeWine's 1994 Senate Campaign. He co-chaired Todd Ward's 1997 Cincinnati City Council campaign. Pat was a leader of the Build Cincinnati charter reform effort that created the ballot initiative allowing Cincinnati voters to elect the City's Mayor directly. Cincinnati voters passed this issue in May. Pat's work will mean more democracy, more accountability and more checks and balances in our City government. Pat is a member of the Hamilton County Tax Levy Review Committee, and the Hamilton County Republican Central and Executive Committees. He is a director of the Talbert House, the Over the Rhine Foundation, and the Mt. Lookout Civic Club and is on the Development Committee of the Community Land Cooperative. He has served as a youth mentor in the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative program. Pat is a competitive marathon runner, finishing 2nd in the 1994 Toledo marathon, and 13 1 st out of some 38,000 in the 1996 Boston marathon.
