Candidates Answer Questions on the Issues

See below for questions on transportation, campaign finance, planning

Click on a name for other candidate information.

1. What are your views regarding the need for public transportation in your community to promote access to employment throughout the region?

Answer from Hubert E. Brown:

I have worked on a plan to bring rail service along US 50. I do not see a need for public transportation other than rail service in our township.

Answer from Robert H. Grauvogel:

I'm in favor of some type of public transportation, but due to the rural atmosphere of our township this concept needs a lot of research before implementation

2. Would you be in favor of county-wide campaign finance regulations that would provide for public matching funds, limit campaign contributions and provide for more disclosure? State your opinions on these ideas; whether you would support or oppose them.

Answer from Hubert E. Brown:

I support any proposal that limits corporations and people with money from buying political seats.

Answer from Robert H. Grauvogel:

Yes This would certainly make the candidates be more honest toward the voters. This would allow for a more open election process

3. What are the benefits/detriments to land use planning prior to zoning decisions?

Answer from Hubert E. Brown:

The benefits of land use planning is the vision of what could be or should be proper and good land use in our area. The detriment is when outside sources devise land use plans different from the wishes of the people and try to implement them. All land use plans should reflect the will of the people involved.

Answer from Robert H. Grauvogel:

A land use plan is a very useful tool before any zoning decision, in fact it is required and also recommended by all governing bodies. We in Whitewater Township have a land use plan that was used in prior zoning efforts and turns out to be useful in other areas of Township development plans. A land use plan is mostly showing what present properties are used for - it may not be its wisest and best use in some cases
