Full Biography for Doug HalterCandidate for |
Doug Halter, Candidate for Ventura City Council Born April 15, 1960 in San Jose, California Challenges have always been a part of my life. Originally from Northern California, I became the first in a large extended family to obtain a college education. Funded entirely by myself, I went away to school at UC Santa Barbara and obtained a chemical engineering degree at the age of 22. In addition to being an engineer, my experience includes marketing, management, cost analysis, and computer technology experience with Procter and Gamble and Unisys Corporation. I currently enjoy using my skills to pursue a variety of entrepreneurial opportunities. Fifteen years ago I moved to Ventura. I was attracted to the coastal beauty, historic ambiance, and small town charm. I saw past the many problems that plagued our city and, instead, saw the value of what it has been, what it is, and felt the excitement for the potential and opportunities that it offered. Seven years ago I built my own home and began renovating several others, reinforcing efforts to restore the historic charm to our older neighborhoods. Two years ago I opened Villa Tasca, a home and garden store, which has provided more diversity to our downtown shopping experience. And most recently, I opened the new "Laurel Theatre" as a non-profit professional performing arts center to help showcase the many creative talents in our community As an active leader in the community I have earned the respect of many Ventura citizens. I live by deep-seated principles and people who know me would attest that my ideas and decisions reflect those principles and are always in the best interest of our community. Helping others develop their unique potential and working to improve our community has always been some of my highest priorities. I strongly believe in being part of the solution and taking action. Currently, I actively participate on over 17 committees, commissions, and boards, including the Parks and Recreation Commission, the Chamber Music Festival Board, the Historical Alliance, the Downtown Community Council, and the Visioning Outreach Committee. If elected to the City Council, I will bring knowledge gained through active participation. I promise to be a Councilmember that has the integrity to be trusted, the passion to motivate, and the conviction to persist in the face of adversity. I hope that I can count on your support on November 2nd. Thank you. |
