Political Philosophy for DeLinda Moore

Candidate for
Council Member; City of Ceres

This information is provided by the candidate

It is my belief that this local race for Ceres City Council should not be about politics, but rather one of concern for our community. I believe with the experience I've gained through nearly 20 years of volunteerism in this community, along with the commitment I've shown to our community, that I can best address the needs we have here.

From my community involvement I am aware that as the city has grown, its needs have also. As our city grows, our public safety department, both police and fire services, need additional resources to better serve the residents of Ceres. I am concerned with the influences of gangs on our youth. Our families have the right to live in a safe, clean, graffiti-free environment. Action must be taken to insure this happening.

From both my Planning Commission and Chamber involvement I am aware that we need to closely examine economic development. Ways need to be found to bring and maintain new business in Ceres. Most importantly, we need to encourage the residents of Ceres to patronize our existing businesses, and the new businesses coming in. I believe Ceres needs to proudly stand on her own, separately from Modesto or Turlock--to have her own identity.

The image we project as a city is very important. It would be ideal if the citizens of Ceres, on their own, would gather together on a "Keep Our City Clean" campaign. However, based on past experiences, I don't see this happening--most people are either too busy, too unmotivated, or just don't care enough. I would like to see the city take a leadership role in this area and get the community excited about our town "getting clean & staying clean." This is not a one-person job. It would need to be an ongoing project. Perhaps organizations within our community could each take an area as a service project. We, as residents, should take pride in our city and be willing to help a little to get a lot done.

My commitment to Ceres extends far beyond the Council chambers, from my directorship on the Chamber of Commerce, my involvement with Ceres Soroptimist, and my nearly 6 years as a Planning Commissioner. I am, and will continue to be, committed to our community.
