Political Philosophy for Odessa P. Johnson

Candidate for
Board of Education Member; Modesto Elementary and High School Districts

This information is provided by the candidate

I ask you to reelect me to serve on the Modesto City Schools Board based on my professional training, classroom and administrative experience, local and statewide involvement with educational issues, and as a parent of a former student in the district.

I have been actively involved in education for over 35 years and have promoted programs to support the youth of this community. As a current board member and Regent for the University of California, I have made critical decisions regarding school finances, curriculum, personnel and facilities. Locally, I have promoted campus safety, zero tolerance for guns and drugs on campus, class size reduction, character education, college counselors on all high school campuses, up-to-date textbooks and technology, higher graduation requirements, life-long learning, and a salary schedule that will attract and keep our most qualified teachers.

My civic involvement has motivated many students to continue their education beyond high school and to receive scholarship assistance. As your school board member, I will work to ensure that all students receive a quality education and are prepared to be all they can be. I will continue to vote in the best interest of all children and I ask for your vote on November 2.
