Modesto continues to be a city for our families; our youth, our working adults and our seniors. A successful city nurtures families with good paying jobs, a safe environment, and recreational opportunities.

We have accomplished much

Our once blighted downtown is a centerpiece for community activity. Our once dilapidated ballpark is now a proud community asset. Our storm-torn and economically ravaged golf courses are coming back to health. Our Police Department will soon enjoy a much deserved new facility. Our isolation is diminished with new transportation links like the Amtrak train station and the long haul commuter bus services. Our outdated and inadequate infrastructure funds are now guaranteed to grow as our community grows, with built-in inflation corrections. The first City/County Sales Tax sharing agreements in the State mitigate the impacts of growing businesses that relocate outside City Limits. Downtown traffic congestion is relieved with improvements to both ends of Ninth Street. Our food processing industries enjoy increased sewer capacity with the completion of the segregation project. Community safety is enhanced with the new "state-of-the-art" dispatch and communications center.

It has been a successful four years for Modesto and I have been very gratified to be a part of this success.

We have much to do

Our community deserves the enrichment of a performing arts center. Our youth and our families would be well served with a regional sports complex. Our business community has need of increased air service to our city. Further consolidations with neighboring jurisdictions can economize and reduce overlapping services in our government activities. We must continue to pursue a jobs-housing balance. Our work force must be encouraged to meet the skills requirements of an increasingly technical work place. Our new neighborhoods must continue to be properly placed, well designed and self-sufficient. We must maintain and expand our road system to sustain and grow economic activity. We must protect and increase our inventory of business sites.

I would like to continue to serve you on the Modesto City Council. I want to meet these challenges and achieve further success.

I ask your support in realizing a community, which nurtures its families in an economically strong, physically safe and culturally exciting setting. Our economic success will key all other aspects of our collective lives. Good paying, local jobs support and strengthen our families. These strengthened families discourage crime, especially among youth, and encourage positive, nurturing activities for individuals of all ages. Families with good jobs have the time and resources to maintain their homes and their neighborhoods, they are able to expand their skills and help others; they are capable, in short, of fully participating in Modesto citizenship.
