Full Biography for Chad W. Brown

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Sylvan Union School District

I would be honored to be your voice on the Sylvan School Board.

As a parent, I share your concern that our children receive the very best education attainable in a safe, wholesome, creative and caring environment. My wife, Cheryl, and I have four children. Our children have attended schools within the Sylvan District since our olderst entered kindergarten eleven years ago. He is now a sophomore at Beyer High School. We have a daughter who is in seventh grade at Somerset Middle School, a daughter in third grade at Standiford Elementary School, and a four year old who will enter kindergarten in 2000. We look forward to ten more years as parents of children in the Sylvan Union School District. Every decision reached by the Borad of Trustees will have a direct effect on one or meore member of my family!

Cheryl and I have been activiely involved in the classrooms and on school and district committees as our children have attended school at five of the nine school sites within our district. Though I am not an educator, I have a very good working knowledge of the operations of the district.

Community and School Service

• I was a charter member of the Orchard School Site Council and served one year as President.
• I currently serve on the Board of Directors for the Sylvan Educational Foundation.
• I was Co-Chair of the 1999 Sylvan Foundation Fireworks Stand.
• I have served as the parent representative on the Planning Committee for Elementary School #8 that is slated to begin construction within a year.
• I served as a member of the 1999 Sylvan District Strategic Planning Committee.
• I represented the Sylvan District on the Committee to Explore High School Expansion Alternatives for Modesto City Schools in 1997.
• I am a member of the Modesto Chamber of Commerce.
• I served for six years as a Scoutmaster for a local Boy Scout Troop. I am also an Eagle Scout.

• I earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration in 1983. My undergraduate degree is in German with minor emphasis in Biology and Chemistry.
• For the past 13 years I have worked as a local Property Management Professional. I prepare budgets and financial reports, supervise personnel, and coordinate all maintenance and care of the facilities and grounds of several large apartment communities. I also oversee all contracted projects and services. All of these properties are located in Modesto.
• I previously worked as a construction scheduler. I prepared and monitored detailed schedules for multi million dollar commercial projects. I know what it takes to get a job done on time and within a budget!
• I have been a facilitator at nationwide industry brainstorming conferences. I believe in the untapped potential of creative thinking!
